Herbert Hoover Elementary School
From Palo Alto Wiki
Herbert Hoover Elementary School is one of 12 Elementary schools in the Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD). Hoover is one of PAUSD's two schools that offer alternative elementary education programs. (The other is Ohlone Elementary School.) Hoover offers students a more structured alternative.
New students are drawn through a lottery pool. Placement is by application only. All applicants must be registered for a neighborhood school even if Hoover is the applicant's first choice. Vacancies at Hoover are first offered to siblings of current students. However, siblings must apply as well.

[edit] History
Hoover was founded in 1974, during a time of progressive and alternative educational experimentation district wide. Parents who did not feel that progressive programs met the needs of their children asked for another elementary alternative that was "more structured." Thus, Hoover was established with the intent of creating a consistent structured program built around instruction in basic academic skills.[1]
