[edit] History
In 1999, PAUSD decided to add a third middle school. The site chosen was the site of the former Terman Junior High School, which closed in 1978 due to declining enrollment. The new school first opened its doors in the fall of 2001.
Terman Middle School was named in honor of both Lewis Madison and Frederick Terman. The original Terman Junior High School was named after Lewis Madish Terman (1877-1956) when it opened in 1957. Lewis was a well-known Stanford psychologist who contributed to education both through his research on health and hygiene in schools and his development of the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Test.
Frederick E. Terman (1900-1982) was Lewis' son. He was a Stanford engineering professor. He is most well-known for backing David Packard and William Hewlett in their efforts to create Hewlett-Packard.
Terman Middle School revived Terman Jr. High's mascot of the Tiger, but chose new colors of gold and black. (Its previous colors had been blue and white, which are currently JLS's colors.)
