[edit] Carer in law enforcement
Vermeer was previously the Chief of Police of Menlo Park.[1] Vermeer has promoted ubiquitous technology solutions for urban crime problems and fostered anti-gang programs for Mountain View.[2] He has managed the adoption of Tasers by the police force and offered advice to Palo Alto about the lessons learned.[3][4] As of 2010, he was, in addition to his duties as Police Chief, acting as Interim Fire Chief.[5]
His PAL (Police Activities League) anti-gang program includes chess as an activity.[6][7]
