It opened on July 19, 1958 two years after the bond issue of $700,000 was passed for its construction and the construction of the Main Library. Built by Edward Durrell Stone, it was roughly close to 5,500 squre feet when it opened. Later in 1975, Federal Revenue Sharing Funds were obtained, that would lead to the expansion of floor space by about 70%.
