Main Library

The Main Library is one of Palo Alto's five libraries. Today the Library houses 114,862 volumes which includes a vast number of reference materials. With 26,313 square feet of space, it is the largest library in the city. It is located at 1213 Newell Rd., 94303 and can be reached at 329-2436.

The library was introduced to the public at the same time as the Mitchell Park Library and was designed by Edward D. Stone, designer of the United States Exhibit Hall at the Brussels World Fair as well as the Stanford Hospital.
The original building was 25,000 square feet. In 1982, renovations would add on more space for staff, increasing it to its size today. and in 1982, rennovations would start to add on more are for staff work space, increasing the size to the square feet it is now.
