High Speed Rail
From Palo Alto Wiki
High Speed Rail (HSR) through the peninsula entered the planning phase after the passage of California Proposition 1A (2008) AKA "Safe, Reliable High-Speed Passenger Train Bond Act for the 21st Century".
In October 2009, Newlands & Company, Inc. provided some high-quality 3D renderings with full animations of what different types of rail from Peers Park to Churchill Ave. (downtown an a mile south) might look like. The videos include what the current Caltrains looks like and the new designs, likely in order of expense from least to most expensive with an emphasis on the ground-level experience at the crossings and on Alma St.:[1]
- Retained Fill: elevated rail built upon an earth ramp
- Structure: elevated rail built upon a highway-style structure (concrete pillars, etc.)
- Full Trench: a trench that completely hides the rail and trains from nearby ground-level views
- Tunnel Option: a tunnel that allows for sidewalks, roads, etc. to be uninterrupted
