Baum earned a B.A. in Biology, Political Science from Whittier College in 1981 and graduated from University of Southern California Law School in 1984.^[1]

Baum's CA Bar # is 108209.^[2] He was involved in the Palo Alto eruv in 2007.

In 2007, Baum was awarded a Pro Bono Service Award by the Santa Clara County Bar Association.^[3] In 2009 he was awarded an 'Access to Justice' award for pro bono work.^{[4][5][6][7][8][9][10]}
